Stop Motion Animation Workshops

Celebrate winter with a animation workshop at The Forks!

Children 9 to 12 years will enjoy making a short animated video about their favourite winter activities. Videos produced during the workshop may be entered in Freeze Frame’s annual video competition for young people.

Two animation techniques will be offered:


Ever want to disappear through a wall, climb into a tiny box or skate without skates? With Pixilation, you can appear to do just that! Use your body as the puppet in this popular stop motion animation workshop!

Paper Cut-out

Get cool and crafty with scissors and paper! Use various types of paper and / or pictures from magazines to create a winter fun animation!

Workshop Dates:
Saturday January 23, 2016, 12:30 – 3:30pm
Sunday January 30, 2016, 12:30 – 3:30pm

Ages: 9 to 12

Cost: $15.00 / participant per workshop
Location: The Forks Market

Please note: A minimum of 10 participants per session is required. If there are insufficient participants, a notice of cancellation will be sent within 24 hours of the workshop.

U of M Gym and Swim

Students will participate in swimming lessons and/or

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: December 2, 2015 (4:00pm)

Wednesdays Jan 6/16–Mar 16/16 *No classes Feb17/16 (10 weeks)

Phys Ed – 1:00-2pm
Students will participate in PE activities such as, but not limited to: archery, fencing, racquetball, walleyball, lacrosse & other activities.
Ages: 6-12
Program duration: 60 minutes

I Can Swim – 2:00-3:00pm
The I Can Swim program is a dynamic aquatic learn to swim program in which participants learn to swim better, faster. It promotes participation, fun and success in the water. Our program does not have a level system and as such there is no pass or fail at the end of each session. Instead, children progress through the program at their own rate, achieving each of the 54 skills as they complete them. Classes are created based on the children who have registered and participants are grouped based on their previously achieved skill level in our program or their age for new swimmers. Our lessons are taught in a class with a 1:5/6 ratio.
Ages: 6-12
Program duration: 60 minutes
Cost: $100

Bronze Star –  2:00-3:30pm

This is step #1 to becoming a lifeguard if you are under 13 years old. This course will introduce the basic lifesaving skills and water safety procedures. Participants will begin to develop lifesaving problem-solving and decision-making skills individually and with partners.
Canadian Lifesaving Manual Recommended: $42
Ages: 10-12
Program duration: 90 minutes
Cost: $155

Swim Fit – 2:00-3:00pm
Here is your opportunity to get fit in the pool! The focus of the program is endurance and technique refinement in an environment more closely resembling that of a coaching atmosphere. Participants are taught how to use swimming to develop/ maintain fitness while continuing to improve their swim strokes. Participants should have completed the I Can Swim Program (or an equivalent learn to swim program) prior to registering for this course.
Ages: 11-16
Program duration: 60 minutes
Cost: $90

Private Voice Lessons

Susan Watkins is offering private voice lessons from her home in the unicity area.  In the evenings she teaches at either MTYP or at the Manitoba Conservatory, and she also runs her own opera company that performs exclusively for children.  She is very passionate about musical education for both children and adults.  Contact her at susan.a.watkins@gmail.com.

Weekend Classes and Workshops don’t fit into your schedule?

Exciting news! We are planning more workshops!  We would love to hold more during weekdays and / or evening classes if enough people are interested.

We are trying to gauge interest in weekdays and evenings workshops. Are you interested in weekday or evening classes covering silk dyeing, silk painting, alcohol ink and more?  We are looking at dates in late October and early November.
