Veteran Homeschoolers

Jennifer, a homeschooling mother of 5 (ages 11-20 years) is willing to meet with newer homeschoolers to discuss the ins and outs of homeschooling. She lives in west St. James in Winnipeg. Jennifer is an eclectic homeschooler who uses mostly a Charlotte Mason approach in her home, but does tends towards a relaxed, unschooling approach. She has been homeschooling since the beginning. Her oldest recently graduated from homeschool, did one year at University of Winnipeg and was recently accepted to the Creative Communications program at Red River College. Jennifer and her children are members of the Winnipeg Learning Center and Such Stuff Players. She also serves on the Advisory Team of MASH. If you would like to discuss homeschooling with Jennifer, contact MASH and we’ll pass your information onto her.

Edwina, homeschooling mother of 2 (ages 9 and 10) is happy to meet with homeschoolers to chat about the early years of homeschooling (K to grade 5), and about working part time whilst homeschooling.   I tend towards a relaxed version of a secular, classical approach to education (having read The Well Trained Mind when the kids were much younger but now gleaning most of my information from their forums), but aspire to be even more relaxed with each year, although I admit to being an inveterate box checker.  I am still working on developing a balance between activities outside the home and being at home, dealing with not having a constant support network (for good and for bad), and not collecting every Math curriculum that exists.  I am on the Advisory Team for MASH and am currently the newsletter editor.  We school year round so that we can take frequent breaks, which hopefully will include a month long break to warmer climes during the winter.  If you would like to discuss homeschooling with me, please contact MASH and I would be happy to get in touch with you.

Vicki, a homeschooling mom of 2 (ages 11 and 13 years) is willing to meet with newer homeschoolers to discuss the ins and outs of homeschooling.  She lives in the North End/West Kildonan area of Winnipeg. Vicki and her husband have been homeschooling their children since deciding to pull them out of public school mid-year going on six years ago. They have been successfully homeschooling both their children while both working full-time outside of the home. Vicki is an eclectic homeschooler who mostly uses Manitoba curriculum guidelines in her home, but tends towards a relaxed, unschooling, child led, independent study approach. Both of Vicki’s children train and compete in Judo through the West Kildonan Judo club. And her daughter is using the flexibility homeschooling allows to train and study singing and songwriting through Living Music Inc. Vicki also serves on the Advisory Team of MASH.  You can contact Vicki via MASH;  we will pass your information on to her.
